In your lifetime, there may be times where one word truly describes the essence of a person. The title of this piece is a true description of the multi-fascited Kree23. There are a few performers that can call themselves a "Triple Threat". But how many of them can claim the titles of artist, tattoo artist, and emcee? Very few, if any.

Whether you're looking for that perfect piece to hang in your home, needing to get inked up, or wanting to bear witness to a hot stage performance, Kree has got you covered. Don't believe me? Check out the video treatment for her latest single, "Revelations"!

KREEATIVITY!!!

Celebrate Hip Hop History: 1983

Since its birth in 1973, hip hop culture has had a big influence on many aspects of the world and society. Its rhymes and beats have dominated music, its lifestyle has infiltrated entertainment and fashion, and its defiance and awareness has had a deep impact on politics and business.

In recognition of this major achievement, the good folks at The Rub have compiled a series of mixes they call The History of Hip Hop. (Seriously, what else could you call it?) Beginning with 1979, DJ Ayers, Cosmo Baker, and DJ Eleven present the best hits of that particular year.

Courtesy of The Rub, Brooklyn Radio, and Mixcloud, these mixes are available for download. Click below to check out the "Hip Hop History Mix of 1983"!

November 2013

You know it was bound to happen! Thanks to a submission to a Hollywood movie soundtrack, two prolific artists known the world over for the creation of classic joints have decided to team up and put together possibly one the most-anticipated releases in recent memory. Their track records speak for them both. Evidence: 1/3 of hip hop's legendary Dilated Peoples, astounding solo artist, hit record producer, artistic photogragher. The Alchemist: a well-established emcee, 1/2 of hip hop duo Gangrene (with fellow emcee/producer OhNo), beatmaker to hip hop heavyweights (Mobb Deep, Ras Kass, Fashawn, etc.), Eminem's official DJ.

On January 21, 2014, two friends who have grown together (in age, mindset and artistry) will bring to you...STEP BROTHERS!!! What a way to start out a new year!!! For more info on this amazing release, CLICK HERE!!!

THE LEGEND CONTINUES...

Even after 20+ years in the hip hop game, San Antonio's living legend MAD-ONE continues to give the world quality music. He's been featured on Sway and King Tech's "World Famous Wake-Up Show" in the late 90's. He's opened for Killah Priest, Devin The Dude, 2Mex, and more. He's collaborated with great producers, including Kizersoze, Ruler Why, and Berlin's Seize Beats, among others.

The hits just don't stop! Among his upcoming releases: Fall of Guerilla City, his album with Tha Midax (together as The Silverback Project); some new heat with Kizersoze entitled AK's & Bibles; and a currently-untitled project with DJ Ninja. For now, go to his Bandcamp page and grab his recently-released joint with the Digital Brovas, Uncontrolled Fire!!!

EPIC DYNASTY!!!

I have to be truly honest with you...I've been digging this woman's music since her first single, "Femcee", hit my inbox back in 2009. Since then, she's been blazing trails, inspiring many, and setting the standard of what it takes to be a real emcee. Get to know "Ya Girl, DY"...DYNASTY!!!

This Tampa, FL emcee (by way of Queens, NY) has a heavy and healthy work ethic, constantly putting out quality material. It doesn't hurt when you have the stamp of approval from a hip hop icon, either...the legendary DJ Premier, to be exact. Dynasty has shared mics and stages with a who's who of hip hop greats: KRS-ONE, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Skyzoo, just to name a few.

DY is currently on her second tour of Europe this year. It's all in preparation for her new release, A Star in Life's Clothing, on Berlin, Germany-based Jakarta Records. Go to www.yagirldy.com to check out her releases, or click & play her latest video, "SUPADYNASTY".

DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!

It's a beautiful thing to see things just come together perfectly! For example, two of SA's top-notch performers have teamed up to bring forth their highly-anticipated collaborative effort, the HOMEWORK EP!

R.E.L. (skilled MC from AZTEX and Chisme) and Mexican Stepgrandfather (hip hop artist / member of Third Root / UTSA professor) have shared stages many times, as well as been featured on past projects together. So it just seems right that these two talented craftsmen took the time to work together and present one of the season's best releases.

The release of the HOMEWORK EP is literally just around the corner! If you'd like to download TWO FREE TRACKS off of the release, JUST CLICK HERE!!!

U-GOD: THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER

It’s been 20 years since the Wu-Tang Clan first warned the masses to “Protect Ya Neck”. The Clan has assembled a massive catalogue of top-notch hits for people to enjoy into the next millennium. U-God makes an addition to that catalogue with his latest effort, entitled The Keynote Speaker.

U-God really steps up his game with this release. Of course, he has fellow Clan members features on this record (GZA, Method Man, Inspectah Deck). But then he snatches up highly-skilled MC’s like Jackpot, Elzhi, and Kool Keith to drop jewels on this album as well.

The Keynote Speaker is now available for purchase. Wanna take a listen to the album before you buy? Click here (http://soultemplemusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-keynote-speaker) to check it out for yourself!

14KT: As Good As Gold!!!

If you're looking for genuine, heartfelt, quality production, then look no further than Michigan's own 14KT (yes, that one, from the Athletic Mic League). I was first introduced to his music (by way of Spitkicker) with the release of his fantastic EP Nowalataz, his tribute to the late J Dilla. His stock rose even further with his constant appearances in the "Red Bull Big Tune" Beat Battle, which he eventually won in 2010. This win lead to a dope collaboration with Texas hip hop legend Bun B.

This prolific beatmaker just released his first video off of the Nickel & Dimed album called "Five & Ten"! Peep that and send me your feedback. Click the link above, get his new jawn, and rock your block this fall.

SIMPLY AMAZING!

Thanks to fellow radio DJ Leise Love, I met this tall skinny dude working the door at On The Half Shell, who said, that he can rap. His Moniker: AMAZE. I've had a chance to actually see him perform, and with each performance, he has truly improved. Recently, this artist released his debut album entitled "Ubuntu" (a Nguni Bantu term roughly translated to "human kindness").

Before I go any further, I must make one suggestion to Amaze: please find a quality vocalist to sing the hooks to your songs...they deserve a skilled singer in that aspect. Outside of that, I really feel what Amaze is trying to convey in his music. Humble, intellectual, but can come out the box with you: he has skills. Writing, recording, producing, mastering, mixing, pressing, selling, promoting, performing...for a young man wearing many hats, he's been able to grind and make it work.

Amaze does have, well, amazing potential, and I'm looking forward to see what else he has in store. Click here to check for yourself!

An Illuminating "First Light"!!

As most true hip hop fanatics know, if there is a Hieroglyphics project being released for mass consumption, you know it's gonna be tremendous. For the new album from First Light, Fallacy Fantasy, this is truly the case.

Many of you are familiar with Opio and Pep Love. As members of the legendary Bay Area group Souls of Mischief, they have been rocking mics and ripping shows for the past two decades. Their collaboration on this release strives to bring back the essence of 90's-era hip hop. At the same time, the album addresses the loving and loathing of hip hop's current state.

Fallacy Fantasy is now available for purchase on iTunes (CLICK HERE). And for now, check out their latest video, "Do This Well"!

This Duo Is Too Ill To Be "Pigeon Holed"!!

The weather isn't the only thing that's cold about Canada! Canadian hip hop is just as rich, diverse, and funky as music here in the States. One prime example of that is Pigeon Hole

This duo of producers/emcees based out of Vancouver Island have trilled audiences on both sides of the border as members of Sweatshop Union. Their 1st album, Age Like Astronauts, had critics and fans alike clamoring for their  hard-hitting beats and sharp-tongued lyricism.

Pigeon Hole's new release, Chimp Blood, promises to follow the path laid by the first album. Go to http://urbnet.bandcamp.com/album/chimp-blood to check it out. You can also take a look at their video from the album, "Champion".

The Black Opera f/ Mayer Hawthorne - "Queen of Hearts"

(from Libretto: of King Legend )

Dead The Poets!!

Who's got wordplay that sicker than the bubonic plague, leaving you shaking like meeting Jesus on Judgement Day? For SA hip hop heads, the answer is obvious...DEAD THE POETS (formally Dead Poet Society)

The duo of Kizersoze and Lawjick is leaving their bloody mark across Texas. Both men are seasoned warriors in the battle circuit keeping their lyrical swords sharp, ready to annihilate any opponent that dares to step in the arena.

Dead The Poets recently released their first album together, The Savage LP. Go to www.deadthepoets.com and bear witness to their madness. Also take a look at their video treatment for "88 Kane Sniff"!

"That DJ Made My Day": Gettin' It In with Donnie Dee!!

Unless you've literally been sleeping under a rock the size of Texas, you've noticed that this city has an ever-growing DJ culture. Whether it's hip hop, reggae, EDM, etc., these men and women behind the tables have the ability to keep you rocking the dance floor or nodding your head to the beat.

There's one DJ in particular whose name is synonymous with skill and savoir-fare: Donnie Dee!

This San Antonio native epitomizes the true essence and nature of turntablism. He's the host of "Super Soul Saturday" on KRTU 91.7 FM. He's a two-time U.S. DMC finalist. He was a U.S. finalist in this year's Red Bull Thre3Style. He knows how to rock a crowd...no ifs, ands, or buts about it!

Go to http://www.mixcloud.com/RedBullThre3Style/donnie-dee-usa-regional-final/ and check the technique. Oh, and don't worry...I'll be featuring more of SA's best DJ's in the very near future!

Hannibal Stax x Marco Polo - "46 Bars of Death" (from Seize The Day)

"Beautiful Raw" Music!!

After three critically-acclaimed albums (The Harvest, So Be It, and Owl), Qwel & Maker are back with their latest release from Galapagos4, Beautiful Raw.

Whether as a member of Typical Cats, through his collaborations with top producers (Kip Killagain, Meaty Ogre), or with his solo projects, Qwel has cemented his place in hip hop. His lyrical display and intricate wordplay commands you to listen. He is perfectly matched with top-notch production from Maker, a true beast behind the boards. After 12 years of perfecting the art of beatmaking, you would expect nothing less. Don't believe me? Go check his record, then go check his records!

DJ Bizkid created an album sampler of Beautiful Raw to coincide with its release... click here to get a taste. Plus, take a look at the album's first video, "Longwalkers"!

Celebrate Hip Hop History: "Let's Take It Back To '79!!"
